Semi-transparent beige transdermal patches containing nicotine 15mg. Relief of nicotine withdrawal symptoms as an aid to smoking cessation. If possible should be used in conjunction with behavioural support.

Adults: Recommended to start on 25mg/16 hour patch and use one patch daily for 8 weeks (step 1). Wean to one 15mg/16hour patch daily for 2 weeks (step 2), followed by one 10mg/16 hour patch daily for 2 weeks (step 3). Light smokers (up to 10 cigarettes a day) should start at step 2 for 8 weeks and wean to step 3 for 4 weeks. Those who experience side effects with the 25mg patch which do not resolve in a few days should switch to 15mg patch for remainder of 8 week course. Adolescents (12-18 years): as for adults but treatment should not exceed 12 weeks without consulting a healthcare professional.

Caution: Use with caution in unstable cardiovascular disease, moderate to severe hepatic impairment and severe renal impairment. Patients with diabetes should be advised to monitor blood sugar levels more closely when NRT is initiated. Patches should not be used in patients with skin disorders such as psoriasis or chronic dermatitis
